Frozen in: Huge ice storm glazes the South

Are you feeling the effects of the winter storm? Share your images and stories with CNN iReport, but only if it is safe to do so.

Atlanta (CNN) - Fool me once, said Georgians.

Apparently well-prepared this time, they appeared to be handling an ice storm forecasters had billed as "catastrophic" - in stark contrast to a winter storm last month - but the worst may be coming Wednesday evening.

After icing parts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, the storm arrived Wednesday morning in Georgia, and while precipitation decreased early Wednesday afternoon, it's expected to pick up again later, bringing more ice and snow to metro Atlanta. The ice will taper off later Wednesday, but snow is expected to continue into the night, according to CNN meteorologists.

Apollo Theatre ceiling collapses in London

London (CNN) - A rescue operation was under way Thursday after part of the ceiling in the Apollo Theatre in central London collapsed during a performance, initially trapping people inside and causing casualties, officials said.

Authorities responded to a report of a ceiling collapse at about 8:15 p.m., police said in a tweet.
Within an hour, a spokesman for the fire department said all of the people who had been hurt - estimated at 20 to 40 - had been freed from the building, which had held some 700 theatergoers.

Dead Colorado school shooter wanted to confront teacher, sheriff says

Centennial, Colorado (CNN) - A student opened fire Friday inside a suburban Denver high school, injuring at least three people before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.

The shooting began after the student entered Arapahoe High School in Centennial with the intention of confronting a teacher, Sheriff Grayson Robinson told reportera. The sheriff declined to identify the dead gunmen.

"I want to again repeat to you the suspect has been found inside the school and he has deceased as a result of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Robinson said.

Egypt's military moves to allay fears of instability

Cairo (CNN) - Less than a week after overthrowing the nation's first democratically elected president, Egyptian Armed Forces sought Tuesday to portray itself as a stabilizing force fully capable of handling the anger and unrest that have divided the nation.

"Destruction of public property or the stability of the state will not be tolerated," the military said in a statement broadcast on state television. "A constitutional declaration has been issued and the road to transition is clear, so people should feel secure."

The announcement came a day after 51 people were killed in clashes between the Muslim Brotherhood and the military over the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsy and as the fledgling new government announced it had filled key roles.
