Syria ready to cooperate with U.N. to fight ISIS

(CNN) - The Syrian regime says it's ready to accept support from the United States and others working under the U.N. umbrella to fight "terrorists."

The comments, by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem, were made Monday as ISIS fighters seized control of a strategically important air base in the country.

The war-racked nation has been losing control of the northeastern region to ISIS militants.

Moallem, however, warned against any unilateral action or strikes in Syrian territory without permission.

Report: Hamas kills 18 suspected informants for Israel

Gaza (CNN) - Hamas executed 18 suspected informants for Israel in Gaza on Friday, the Hamas-run Al Aqsa TV reported.

This comes one day after an Israeli strike in the Gaza city of Rafah killed three senior leaders of the Qassam Brigades, the Hamas military wing.

Meanwhile Palestinian militants fired more rockets into Israel on Friday, and the Israeli Defense Forces kept up airstrikes on Gaza.

U.S. strikes ISIS again as more details emerge about failed rescue of James Foley

(CNN) - The captors of American journalist James Foley had demanded a ransom of 100 million euros ($132.5 million) for his release, according to GlobalPost spokesman Richard Byrne.

The New Hampshire native, 40, was a freelancer for the online news outlet. He was on assignment when he disappeared on November 22, 2012, in northwest Syria, near the border with Turkey.

Philip Balboni, the president and chief executive of GlobalPost, told CNN that the company "never took the $100 million seriously" because ransoms paid for other hostages in ISIS captivity were "dramatically less." He did not say what those lower amounts were, but that there was an attempt to raise money that was more in line with the lower sums.

Palestinian killed, as fragile cease-fire holds

Jerusalem (CNN) - Indirect talks between Palestinians and Israelis, aimed at ending the hostilities in Gaza, have resumed in Cairo, Egyptian state-run EgyNews reported Monday.

The talks are taking place amid a three-day cease-fire brokered by Egypt.

Israel wants Hamas, the militant Islamic group that runs Gaza, to disarm as part of a demilitarization of the territory. The Palestinian delegation's demands include the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza; a commitment to the 2012 memorandum of understanding, which called for an end to Israel's blockade on Gaza; an extension of fishing rights off the coast; and the reopening of air and seaports.

As nations seek more MH17 access, rebels reportedly getting impatient

(CNN) - Even as investigators say they need more access to bodies and wreckage from last week's Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash in eastern Ukraine, the pro-Russian rebels that control the territory say they're tiring of having any probe there, a spokesman for a monitoring group said Friday.

With the site still not secure eight days after the crash, and victims' remains still lying with debris, nations such as Netherlands are pressing to send their own police and investigators to the scene. Various negotiations are under way.
