Gaza City (CNN) - An Egypt-backed cease-fire between Israel and Hamas fell apart Tuesday as rocket attacks from Gaza were again answered by Israeli airstrikes.
The rocket attacks from Hamas militants in Gaza never ceased, Israeli officials said. For its part, Israel refrained from airstrikes for about six hours before announcing it was resuming them.
A CNN crew witnessed at least five Israeli strikes just as the announcement was made.
Jerusalem (CNN) - Israeli airstrikes pounded targets in Gaza, killing scores of people Wednesday as dozens of militant rockets streaked into Israel.
The continued Hamas barrage prompted Israel's Prime Minister to step up the offensive against the militant group.
Jerusalem (CNN) - Israel intercepted a rocket fired at Tel Aviv on Tuesday and killed militants who stormed into Israeli territory, the military said, as people on both sides of the Gaza border were living under a barrage of attacks from the air.
In a dramatic escalation of the conflict, militants fired more than 130 rockets at Israeli civilians, Israel said. Palestinians reported 16 people in Gaza were killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting militants. Israel said it targeted about 150 "terror sites" in Gaza.
(CNN) - It's likely to be a very wet Fourth of July for North Carolina's Outer Banks.
Tropical Storm Arthur has formed off eastern Florida, the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday, making it the first named storm of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season.
The center said the system could reach minimal hurricane strength by the time it hits the Outer Banks on Thursday night.
Pilger, Nebraska (CNN) - Becky Hauf had always been told her little town of Pilger, Nebraska, would never see a tornado. Too close to the Elkhorn River, the folklore went.
Instead, Pilger got two. At the same time.
The rare twin tornadoes that spun through on Monday night wiped out the town's business district, obliterated its fire station and ground 40 or 50 homes into rubble, Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said.
As much as three-fourths of the town of 350 is gone, Unger said. Two people died during the storm - one a 5-year-old. The second death - a traffic accident - was probably weather-related, Unger said.
