Prosecutors subpoena Christie campaign, state party

(CNN) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's reelection campaign and the New Jersey Republican State Committee have been subpoenaed for documents by federal prosecutors investigating the George Washington Bridge traffic controversy, a law firm representing those groups said in a statement on Thursday.

The political groups also have received subpoenas from a special state legislative committee also investigating the matter that has rocked Christie's administration.

Palin apologizes for not being 'clearer' in comments about Pope

(CNN) – Sarah Palin attempted to clarify comments she made about the Pope in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, saying on Facebook Thursday that she was not trying to be critical of Pope Francis when she said some of his statements sound "kind of liberal."

"I was reminding viewers that we need to do our own homework on news subjects, and I hadn't done mine yet on the Pope's recent comments as reported by the media," she posted.

Scenes of devastation and some relief after Typhoon Haiyan

Tacloban, Philippines (CNN) - Surrounded by rubble, children swarm around a public well in this storm-ravaged city, where bodies are still lying in the streets days after a deadly typhoon struck.

The children douse themselves with water and fill plastic cups and jugs.

"Even though we're not sure that it is clean and safe," Roselda Sumapit said, "we still drink it, because we need to survive."

7.3 quake strikes off Japan; no tsunami threat

(CNN) - A 7.3 magnitude earthquake rumbled early Saturday in the Pacific Ocean about 200 miles east of Japan's main island, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory for the Japanese coastal areas including the Fukushima prefecture, warning people to leave the coast."

At least 3 hurt in shooting at Southern California college, authorities say

(CNN) - At least three people were wounded and a suspect reportedly was in custody Friday after a shooting at Santa Monica College in Southern California, according to officials and media reports.

Authorities were "checking reports for an additional shooter," Sgt. Denise Joslin, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman, told CNN.

The school was under lockdown.
