Eric Holder's legacy: A competing agenda over security and civil rights
Washington (CNN) - The war on terror. Same-sex marriage. Voting rights. Financial scandals. Fast and Furious.
Attorney General Eric Holder's six-year tenure as the nation's chief law enforcement officer has been marked by an activist agenda and political confrontations on a range of legal, policy, and criminal matters.
"I've always liked this job. I've had some days that have been better than others," Holder told CNN's Justice Correspondent Evan Perez last November. He hinted then that his remaining time in office would give him "the ability to focus on issues now that really matter to me."
Some of those things were sentencing reform for drug offenders and community policing outreach in the wake of the recent shooting of unarmed Missouri teenager Michael Brown.

Supreme Court rules against Obama in contraception case
Washington (CNN) - Some corporations have religious rights, a deeply divided Supreme Court decided Monday in ruling that certain for-profit companies cannot be required to pay for specific types of contraceptives for their employees.
The 5-4 decision on ideological lines ended the high court's term with a legal and political setback for a controversial part of President Barack Obama's healthcare reform law.

Supreme Court allows more private money in election campaigns
Washington (CNN) - If you're rich and want to give money to a lot of political campaigns, the Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that you can.
The 5-4 ruling eliminated limits on much money people can donate in total in one election season.
However, the decision left intact the current $5,200 limit on how much an individual can give to any single candidate during a two-year election cycle. Until now, an individual donor could give up to $123,200 per cycle.

Charity gets win for now over Obamacare on contraception
(CNN) - A U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Friday will enable a religious-affiliated non-profit and other groups like it to remain temporarily exempt from Obamacare requirements to cover birth control and other reproductive health they oppose on moral grounds.
The justices extended an injunction first granted on an emergency basis just before the New Year for a Catholic charity for the elderly run by nuns, the Little Sisters of the Poor.
