What's next for Michael Brown's family?
(CNN) – It is easy to get consumed by the image of protesters, or caught up in debate over police profiling and excessive force in the Michael Brown case.
But when you peel away all those layers, you are reminded that a family is still in mourning over the loss of a loved one.
Brown's mother said she could not imagine celebrating Thanksgiving without her son. Yesterday, the family released a picture of themselves sitting at their dining table, with an empty chair in the 18-year-old's honor.
What's clear is that the Brown family believes it was failed by the justice system when a grand jury decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson for killing the unarmed teenager.
But they insist this is not where their story ends.

(CNN) – Ferguson, Missouri, erupted in violent protests early this week after a grand jury decided not to charge Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.
Local stores devastated by looters are just now beginning to re-open. Meanwhile, protesters turned their attention to big box retailers today, trying to turn Black Friday into a so-called "Brown Out Friday."

Ferguson protesters turn Black Friday into 'Brown Out Friday'
(CNN) – Police blocked protesters at the West County Mall in a suburb of St. Louis today, as the so-called "Brown Out Friday" gets underway.
The motto of demonstrators: No justice no profits.
The demonstrations are a reaction to a grand jury decision not to bring charges against Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown. The decision, announced Monday, has sparked protests in Ferguson, Missouri, and around the country.
Dozens descended on a Target in St. Louis calling on shoppers not to buy in support of Brown, and several Wal-Marts throughout the city saw protests as well.
The National Guard showed up at one Wal-Mart in Ferguson, blocking the entrance to the parking lot. Doors did not open until 8 a.m.
But when they did, shoppers did show, with some saying the idea of a "Brown Out" may be misguided.

(CNN) - Missouri protesters Friday turned their anger over the police shooting death of unarmed teen Michael Brown on the St. Louis Galleria Mall, forcing some retailers to temporarily shutter their entrances on the busiest shopping day of the year.
Mall officials urged retailers to bring down security gates after dozens protestors entered the mall and disrupted shopping.
Some stores closed while others stayed open. At some shops, the gates only came up to allow holiday shoppers in and out.

Ferguson businesses destroyed after fires and looting
(CNN) – Ferguson store owners were promised they would be protected, assured their businesses would be safe.
"Together, we are all focused on making sure the necessary resources are at hand to protect lives, protect property, and protect free speech," Gov. Jay Nixon said ahead of the announcement of the grand jury decision Monday.
But that same night, those promises fell apart.
