(CNN) - They are adapting and somehow still advancing despite days of coalition airstrikes. ISIS fighters in Syria are closing in on a key border town within sight of Turkey.
And while it's still unclear whether the bombing campaign has done anything to accomplish the president's goal of 'degrading and destroying ISIS,' there are new concerns about the toll the campaign's taking on innocent people who have already survived years of war from many different angles.
Today, another jarring reminder of that that civil war, as 41 school children were reportedly killed in twin bombings in the Syiran government-controlled city of Homs, according to human rights monitors there.
CNN's chief National Security correspondent Jim Sciutto reports.
