Friend of Virgin Galactic pilots: They loved to fly, it was their passion

(CNN) – Former Washington Post Reporter Joel Glenn Brenner was a friend of the pilots aboard Virgin Galactic's doomed SpaceShipTwo test flight.

"They were some of the best flight pilots I've ever seen. For two young gentlemen, they had talents like you would not believe," Brenner said.

New CNN polls show tight senate races in Iowa, N.C.

Washington (CNN) - Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan is clinging to a narrow lead over Republican challenger Thom Tillis in North Carolina, a new CNN/ORC International poll shows.

Hagan led with 48% support to 46% for Tillis, the state House speaker, in the survey of 559 likely voters, conducted Oct. 27-30 and with a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points. Libertarian Sean Haugh polled at 4%.

Meanwhile, in Iowa, Republican Joni Ernst has a small lead over Democrat Bruce Braley.

A new CNN/ORC International poll shows Ernst had 49% support, topping Braley's 47%, in the survey of 647 likely voters, which was conducted Oct. 27-30 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

Fmr. NASA astronaut on the Virgin Galactic explosion, and the fate of space tourism

(CNN) – One pilot was killed and another injured after Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo exploded after what the company called a "serious anomaly" occurred during a test flight.

Will the explosion have an effect on space tourism?

Sen. Klobuchar reacts to predictions of a bad night for Dems on Nov. 4

(CNN) – Despite the ultra-close margins in key races across the country, are Democrats destined for a dismal election day?

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, has been ping-ponging from battle ground state to battle-ground state in support of fellow Democrats this year.

"Looking into a crystal ball at this moment when these races are so down to the wire and so close, I don't think we can make those kinds of vasts predictions yet," Klobuchar said.

Pa. police commissioner: I worried every night that Frein would kill my friends, colleagues

(CNN) – The Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner said the fear of not catching trooper-killing Eric Frein plagued him.

"I worried about that every night," Commissioner Frank Noonan told CNN.

"The most important thing that I was worried about is I was sending a lot of great people, good friends of mine into the woods, and he had a sniper rifle, and we knew that he may have explosive devices, too," he said.
