(CNN) – Actress Michelle Monaghan, who starred in the first season of HBO's "True Detective," says one new star for next season is something of an unconventional pick.
Colin Ferrell wasn't a surprise, Monaghan said in an interview with CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper." But "Vince Vaughn is really an idea that's kind of out of the box," she says.
Vaughn most recently starred in a pair of comedies last year - "Delivery Man" and "The Internship."
Casting Vaughn in the dramatic series is a reminder to fans and viewers that Vaughn "actually has very dramatic roots."
