(CNN) – The World Bank committed an additional $170 million toward helping African nations hardest-hit by Ebola Thursday.
While the outbreak is "not coming under control yet," says Dr. Paul Farmer, a professor at Harvard University, the recognition in the last few days that there is a widespread out-of-control epidemic is encouraging.
But more resources are needed to effectively combat the disease, including protective gear, safe spaces to treat patients, and a systemic approach to tracking the disease, he says.
