(CNN) – President Barack Obama placed blame for the violence in Ukraine on Russia Wednesday.
"The violence is encouraged by Russia. The separatists are trained by Russia; they are armed by Russia; they are funded by Russia," he told reporters in Washington.
Calling sanctions against Russia already in place "effective," he said it would face additional costs and consequences for its ongoing incursion.
"Russia is already more isolated than at any time since the end of the Cold War," Obama said.

(CNN) – Abdirahmaan Muhumed is the second American said to have been killed while fighting for ISIS in Syria over the weekend, a U.S. official tells CNN.
The other American ISIS member killed was Douglas McAuthur McCain. Various reports have indicated that Muhumed, like McCain, had ties to Minnesota.
There has to be something besides a warmer climate that would draw Americans like these from Minnesota to the battlefield in Syria.
CNN's Ted Rowlands reports.

(CNN) - It's too soon to say what steps the United States will take against ISIS in Syria, President Barack Obama said Thursday.
"I don't want to put the cart before the horse," Obama said. "We don't have a strategy yet."
Obama said he's asked U.S. military leaders to prepare "a range of options" about what the United States could do to go after ISIS in Syria, which he said has become "a safe haven" for the Islamist group.
In Syria, he said, it's a political issue as well as a military one - and something regional leaders need to address.
