(CNN) – President Barack Obama has yet to decide whether to authorize air strikes against ISIS targets in Syria, the White House insists.
The Pentagon press secretary, echoing statements from the secretary of defense and the nation's top military officer, said the U.S. must take a "regional approach" to ISIS.
"We have to look at the sanctuary they have in Syria, and we have to consider the free reign they have over a non-existent border right now," Rear Adm. John Kirby said in an interview with CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper."
"No military solution will be enough and you have to look at the whole situation, politically, economically, diplomatically," he said.
