(CNN) - After nearly a week of protests and pleading, today the Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson finally released the name of the officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager. Also released were accusations that Michael Brown was a suspect in a convenience store robbery that took place just before the shooting.
But what police here in Ferguson call "transparency" is being labeled nothing short of "character assassination" by Brown's family.
The family released a statement through their attorney earlier today, which reads in part, "here is nothing based on the facts that have been placed before us that can justify the execution style murder of their child by this police officer as he held his hands up, which is the universal sign of surrender."
Benjamin Crump, one of the family's attorneys, joined CNN's Jake Tapper live from Tallahassee to discuss today's revelations.
