Brown family attorney accuses police of 'character assassination' to 'justify this execution'

(CNN) - After nearly a week of protests and pleading, today the Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson finally released the name of the officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager. Also released were accusations that Michael Brown was a suspect in a convenience store robbery that took place just before the shooting.

But what police here in Ferguson call "transparency" is being labeled nothing short of "character assassination" by Brown's family.

Chief: Officer didn't know Brown a suspect

Ferguson, Missouri (CNN) - We finally know the name of the officer who shot and killed unarmed black 18-year-old Michael Brown on Saturday. He is Darren Wilson, a white 28-year-old who's been on the force for six years. And that is not the only bombshell the Ferguson police force dropped today.
