(CNN) – The shoot down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 could inspire other terrorist groups.
Asked if terrorists could obtain a surface-to-air missile defense system, and attempt a copy cat attack, former CIA operative Bob Baer says "the chances are good."
"You look at the terrorist groups. They're saying look at all the attention the Ukraine's getting, if we fired at an airplane and brought it down, we'd get the same attention. And after all, they do want attention," said Baer.
But the real fear in the intelligence community is shoulder-fired weapons being used in Libya, Egypt, and Iraq, he says.
"Anywhere you see conflict going on, you have the possibility of a shoot down of an airliner," said Baer.
