(CNN) – Two dual Israeli-American citizens were killed Sunday by Hamas: California native Max Steinberg and Sean Carmeli, from South Padre Island, Texas, the U.S. State Department said.
Sean was a typical kid, who did well in school, and always had a smile on his face, said Rabbi Asher Hecht, a family friend
"He was very proud of his Jewish identity. He was very proud to fight in the IDF, the Israel Defense Force," Hecht said.

(CNN) – As aircraft disaster investigations go, the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flighty 17 promises everything, but delivers almost nothing.
It has witnesses, debris fields, the so-called black boxes, and experienced accident investigators not far away in Kiev.
But this catastrophe has so far lacked immediate and complete access.

Washington (CNN) – Most Americans say Russia is directly or indirectly responsible for the downing of a Malaysia Airlines jetliner over eastern Ukraine, and unfavorable opinions of Russia have surged, according to a new national poll.
A CNN/ORC International survey conducted Friday through Sunday also indicates that nearly nine in 10 say that Moscow and pro-Russian rebels that control the area where Flight 17 crashed last week will try to cover something up in any international investigation.

Gaza City (CNN) - The death toll on both sides of the Gaza battle jumped Monday, as Palestinian officials reported scores more killed and Israel announced seven more soldiers died - including several on Israeli soil.
About 550 Palestinians have been killed, Gaza Health Ministry officials said. It's unknown how many were militants, but the United Nations has estimated that 70% are civilians. Israel has reported dozens of terrorists killed by its forces.
In total, 25 Israeli soldiers have died, including three believed killed by friendly fire. Seven of the soldiers were killed Monday. Four were on Israeli soil, killed as a result of infiltration by Hamas operatives, the Israel Defense Forces said.
