Could Iran help the U.S. stop ISIS in Iraq?

(CNN) – Iran has deployed three revolutionary guard units to Iraq to bolster their security forces, a senior security official in Baghdad confirmed to CNN.

Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby wouldn't confirm if the U.S. knew these Iranian fighters were there.

But a State Department spokesperson says "we are not talking to the Iranians about Iraq."

"All of Iraq's neighbors, including the Iranians need to not do things to destabilize the situation even further," spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters Friday.

The President spoke about consulting with the U.S.'s international partners about what to do in Iraq. Should Iran be invited to the table?

Council on Foreign Relations president Richard Haass, author of "War of Necessity, War of Choice: A Memoir of Two Iraq Wars" weighs in.
