(CNN) – Rep. Steve Israel, D-New York, joined a growing number of Democrats calling for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki's resignation, but warned the move would not solve systemic problems plaguing the VA.
"He should resign, in my view. But there are too many of my colleagues saying that that resignation is going to solve the problem. It's not going to solve the problem. What is going to solve the problem is a criminal investigation, with or without his resignation," Israel said in an interview with CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper."
If the move would bring "badly needed reforms" to the VA, says Israel, then Shinseki should resign.
