Pentagon official on finding kidnapped girls: We're racing against a clock, and geography

(CNN) – U.S. intelligence officials believe the 276 girls abducted last month have been separated, according to a senior U.S. official who declined to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the information.

"It's easy to conceal people, particularly if you're breaking them up into small groups," says Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby.

The lack of information on the abducted girls is compounded by the tough terrain in which Boko Haram, the group responsible for the kidnappings, operate.

"These terrorists, Boko Haram, they know the ground, and they know the territory. And frankly they have nothing but ill design here," says Kirby. "We are racing against a clock, we
re racing against geography here."
