(CNN) – Is a newly found "object of interest" a potential confirmation on the fate of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, or will it become the latest dead end in the search?
At this late stage, "whatever debris there was will be scattered far and wide," says CNN analyst and ocean search specialist Rob McCallum. "This is a message to anybody living on a coastline around the Indian Ocean, that your beach combing could yield a very important clue."
What searchers are looking for to confirm whether the object found off the Australian coast is a part of the missing Boeing 777, are tell-tale materials, colors, and composition, says CNN safety analyst and author of "Why Planes Crash" David Soucie.
