Rubio: 'Erosion of Democratic order' in Venezuela will be major problem for U.S.

(CNN) – The Obama administration is hesitant to play a larger, open role in opposing Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro's silencing of peaceful protesters, saying forceful engagement would play into Maduro's hands.

"The truth is that you have an erosion of Democratic order in the Western Hemisphere, which is going to be a major problem for our country moving forward," says Sen. Marco Rubio.

"What you have now in Venezuela is an expression of disgust, not just at the mismanagement of the country and of the economy, but at the lack of democratic space and openings. The U.S. has a decision to make: Whose side are we on in that sort of conflict?" Rubio says.

How crash landings affect debris fields

(CNN) – Australia's defense minister made clear that the search for above-water debris of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is still "vital."

History of the 'black box'

(CNN) – It's a desperate time for search crews now racing to rediscover signals that may be coming from the data recorders of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

Those so-called black boxes are something heard about after every plane crash; the flight data and cockpit voice recorders hold the answers to some of the biggest mysteries of modern times.

Quite often, they are the only survivors among the wreckage.

CNN's Jake Tapper reports.

How the plane hit the water could affect the wreckage of Flight 370

(CNN) – There are several possible scenarios for how Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 could have hit the water, including a mid-air explosion, soft water landing, hard water landing, and cartwheeling.

Which is the most plausible at this point?

CNN aviation analyst and pilot Miles O'Brien, and CNN analyst and ocean search specialist Rob McCallum discuss.

White House and GOP spar over equal pay

(CNN) – What's more taboo than talking religion and politics at the workplace? How about paychecks?

According to a recent study, half of all workers say discussing salary information is either discouraged or forbidden on the job, and many believe it puts women at greater risk of being paid less than their male counterparts.

But today, President Barack Obama signed an executive order that would increase the penalties against federal contractors who discipline workers for talking about pay.

He is also pushing Congress to pass a bill aimed at preventing the same kind of retaliation across the board.
