(CNN) - As the nation solemnly marks tomorrow as the one year anniversary of the Newtown shooting, Gabby Giffords’ organization "Americans for Responsible Solutions" released a video Friday asking for action on gun violence. Giffords has teamed up with one of the mothers who lost a child at Sandy Hook Elementary, Nicole Hockley, who lost her six-year old son Dylan. They have created a lesson plan to talk about Newtown and other national tragedies with students.
Nicole Hockley spoke about her role in the project with CNN's Jake Tapper.
(CNN) - When gunshots rang out at Arapahoe High School, one young student told CNN affiliate KDVR News that he didn't know what they were at first. But once they heard the repetitive sounds, he and more than 20 other classmates followed procedure.
"We turned off the light, and locked the door, so they can't get in. And we make sure that if we hear anything ... we won't go out until the SWAT team comes and opens the door," he said.
(CNN) - Arapahoe High School ninth grader Whitney Riley was in the school's study center, laughing and having a good time with fellow classmates. That's when she heard the first bang.
"My teacher asked what it was, and then we heard two more," said Riley, whose parents gave CNN permission to talk with her. "We all just got up and screamed and ran into a sprinkler system room."
Centennial, Colorado (CNN) - A student opened fire Friday inside a suburban Denver high school, injuring at least three people before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.
The shooting began after the student entered Arapahoe High School in Centennial with the intention of confronting a teacher, Sheriff Grayson Robinson told reportera. The sheriff declined to identify the dead gunmen.
"I want to again repeat to you the suspect has been found inside the school and he has deceased as a result of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Robinson said.
