Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to 30 federal counts.
Tsarnaev appeared in court wearing an orange jumpsuit with his feet shackled, but his hands free. He appears to have suffered some nerve damage to his face.
Tsarnaev fidgeted as the judge talked to him. At times, he appeared disinterested.
Then, when he stood to answer the 30 charges against him, he pleaded not guilty to each one, speaking with a distinct Russian accent.
The accent surprised his former wrestling coach and teammates who attended the arraignment. They said when they knew him, Tsarnaev never had such an accent.
His former wrestling coach told CNN he went to the courthouse to see if any of the old Tsarnaev remained. He said he did not see the boy he once knew.
Thirty victims and their families attended the arraignment.
