The Pentagon confirmed to "The Lead's" Jake Tapper Thursday that it is sending a Sea-based X-band Radar system to the Pacific, the first such confirmation. It is a significant move because the radar system is part of the country's missile defense systems to prepare for a possible North Korean missile launch.
"We do have an SBX system that is part of our missile defense and tracking system deployed to the central Pacific," said Pentagon Press Secretary George Little Thursday. Little would not say where it is, for fear of putting the country's sophisticated radar on North Korea's radar.
"We jokingly call this the floating golf ball, and it's a long-range golf ball," said Little. "It’s a very important part of our missile defense architecture and it is intended to help counter ... missile threats in the region."
