What to expect in the Supreme Court's Prop 8, DOMA hearings

They are cases that were always destined to go to the Supreme Court, and could set precedents that will determine once and for all whether gays and lesbians can get married in this country. Tomorrow, the nine justices will hear arguments over California's Proposition 8, the law that voters passed in 2008 banning same-sex marriage in that state. And on Wednesday, the court will hear a separate case challenging the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as between one man and one woman in 1996.

At least one of the nine on the court has a personal connection to this issue. Chief Justice John Roberts has a cousin from San Drancisco who is a lesbian and reportedly wants to marry her partner. She will be in the room, as Roberts' guest, during the Proposition 8 arguments.

Legal analyst and CNN contributor Jeffrey Toobin has more on what to expect in these two cases in the video above.
