What more could police have done to help Garner after he lost consciousness?

(CNN) – The grand jury's decision not to indict a New York City police officer for the death of an unarmed black man may have come down to a key piece of evidence – a cell phone video that showed what happened during Eric Garner's fatal encounter with police.

While much of the focus outside the grand jury room has been on the moment when an officer takes Garner down in a chokehold, the grand jury had to take something else into account – the actions of the other officers after Garner was already down.

In the recording recently posted by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, also known as AQAP, the terror group threatens to kill Luke Somers, if Washington does not meet its demands.

AQAP member Nasser bin Ali al-Ansi, who reads a statement, does not say what the demands are but claims that the U.S. government knows them.

Somers also gives a short statement asking for help and identifying himself.

Rep. Rangel's message to young black men

(CNN) – Rep. Charles Rangel's life and career defies the notion that black lives don't matter.

Yet that does not stop young black men from expressing the fear that their lives are worth less in this country.

"My son was a Marine. How do you tell him not to speak out, to be submissive if you think you're being chased by a cop? Don't run, be quiet? This goes against all of the instinct that people try to teach their sons to be an example of – to be courteous and honest and all those different things," Rangel said in an interview with CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper."
