(CNN) – Following the beheading of American journalist James Foley by the militant group known as ISIS, there has been mounting pressure on the White House to defeat the jihadists - a goal that would likely push President Obama toward military action in Syria.
There is no way to defeat ISIS, unless the U.S. goes into Syria with massive air strikes, said Rep. Peter King, R-New York, member of the House Homeland Security Committee.
The Republican also criticized Obama for dismissing what would eventually become ISIS as a "JV team" back in January.
"I believe that actually ISIS is more powerful now and more deadly than al Qaeda was on September 11th," said King.
