Expert: Captivity 'shattered' Bergdahl

(CNN) – It was 5 years in hell.

New details are emerging about the suffering, torture and isolation Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl endured during his time as a prisoner of the Taliban.

Bergdahl told medical staff he was kept in a box that was pitch black, and like a shark cage, for weeks at a time, according to The New York Times.

Nine days after being freed from captivity, Bergdahl still has not spoken to his parents.

What is the psychological damage from years of being beaten and treated like a caged animal by the Taliban?

Former lead international kidnapping negotiator for the FBI Chris Voss joins CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper" to discuss.
