(CNN) - It would not be an exaggeration to call this the most crucial moment in the political career of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, especially if the Republican plans to run for president in 2016.
The governor emerged a day after the country got a look at text messages and e-mails that appear to tie one of his top aides and a Christie-appointed Port Authority official to a scheme that provoked a massive traffic jam in September on the Fort Lee, New Jersey, side of the George Washington Bridge.
